Getting a Deeper Understanding
Founded in 2003, KIPP Chicago Schools began with a single class of fifth-graders at KIPP Ascend Middle School. KIPP Chicago Schools comprises four middle schools, four primary schools, and a shared services team. In the 2021–22 school year, our schools will serve 3,300 students in kindergarten through eighth grade and over 1,800 alumni via our KIPP Forward program.
A Vision for Success
We worked with KIPP Chicago to develop a unique concept of creating a children’s museum focused on art and social justice issues. The idea for a museum operated by a network of primary schools was refined in collaboration with the KIPP Chicago team. As a result, the Children’s Museum of Art and Social Justice (CMASJ) was established as an innovative museum where the public can experience contemporary art created by Chicago youth alongside working international artists dedicated to highlighting civil and social/human rights issues.
The goals and objectives of this project were to assist in curating, planning, and organizing exhibitions. In addition, provide event documentation, marketing & branding support, and partnership development to build an audience and attain funding support for the children of Chicago.
In looking for a symbol representing the Children’s Museum of Art of Social Justice, we were inspired by the pivotal moment in history that began the Civil Rights Movement. Therefore, the bridge in our logo symbolizes, represents, and honors the historic moment at Edmund Pettus Bridge.
