In 2020, Arts + Public Life’s annual exhibition was no longer a culmination, but an opportunity to share works in progress. The pandemic and the uprising (and ongoing struggle) for racial justice resulted in a transformed residency program for artists. APL and CSRPC have continued to work with, and amplify the work of these three artists in addition to dozens of other local artists, through virtual programs since March of 2020. This exhibition is intended for viewers to be able to intimately engage with each artwork, as well as hear directly from the artists about work they are currently making and planning to create in the future. All three artists invite everyone to engage, reflect and confront the world around us.

In partnership with the Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture, Arts + Public Life supports individual artists through the Artists-in-Residence program by advancing the opportunities available to artists who are underrepresented in the Chicago and national arts scenes. The ten-month paid residency program provides space, materials and stipends, eliminating barriers to participation.
